Caring for your Fernando & James Handmade Toy
Each Fernando & James crocheted toy is carefully handmade by our artisans. A little extra care will help preserve its shape, softness, and special handmade details for years to come.
Spot Cleaning
For small marks or spills, gently blot the area with a clean, damp cloth and a small amount of mild detergent. Avoid rubbing or scrubbing, as this may disturb the yarn fibers or embroidered details.
Washing Crocheted Dolls and Toys
Fully crocheted dolls and toys may be machine-washed in cold water on a gentle or delicate cycle. Place the item inside a mesh laundry bag or tied pillowcase to protect its handmade details, and use a small amount of mild detergent.
Do not use bleach, fabric softener, or harsh cleaning products.
For dolls with tulle, delicate accessories, or detailed embellishments, hand washing is the gentlest option. If machine washing, always use a protective mesh laundry bag.
Rattles and Pacifier Clips with Wooden Parts
Rattles, pacifier clips, and other products containing wooden parts should not be placed in the washing machine, submerged in water, or soaked.
Gently clean the crocheted and wooden areas by hand using a damp cloth with mild soap. Follow with a clean, damp cloth to remove any soap residue, then dry the wooden parts immediately.
Do not place wooden products in a dishwasher, microwave, sanitizer, steamer, or dryer.
Air Drying
Always air dry crocheted products. After washing, gently press out excess water without twisting or wringing. Reshape the toy while damp and lay it flat on a clean, dry towel until completely dry.
Do not place crocheted products in the dryer, and do not iron them.
Protecting Handmade Details
Because each piece is handmade, pulling on the yarn can loosen stitches or affect the shape of the toy. If a small loop or strand appears, gently tuck it back into the stitches. Do not pull or cut it, as it may be connected to another part of the toy.
Regularly inspect children’s products for loose yarn, stitching, wooden pieces, or other signs of damage. Discontinue use until the item can be repaired if any part becomes loose or damaged.
